Chris, you were a great Sergeant and a
great Piper Major. You demonstrated patience, wisdom and leadership not only to your P&D’s, but to all who worked with you. You showed me encouragement and support when I was learning the pipes back in 1989, which I have never forgotten. May you rest in peace.

My childhood holds so many special memories of Chris, but a few stand out listening to him play the bagpipes so proudly and would play any chance he was asked , and the girls would teach me over and over how to dance while he played, always picking us up from the most random places of all hours , and never once making us feel like a burden. Above all, one of Chris’s greatest legacies was never failing to be an incredible father to Kandis and Dimpa (Danielle). His love, guidance, and unwavering support and unconditional love showed the true meaning of what it is to be a devoted parent. I watched in awe the deep love he had for all of his girls, including his beautiful wife.
Chris also had a special way of accepting me , and any other person that came into his home and even though I may have been the bad influence as a teen , he still showed me nothing but love and we had the laughs years later over that. He treated me as his own in his home, something I will be forever be grateful for.
My last fond memory of you, Chris, is making you laugh when Myra and I were hypnotised some years back. I may have made you smile for a moment, but you touched my heart for a lifetime.
Although Chris you may be gone, your legacy of love lives on through your beautiful wife, your daughters, and your grandchildren and family and in the hearts of all of us who were lucky enough to have known you. May you rest in peace Chris, and all the love in the world for you girls through this darkness x
Master Musician, Multi-Instrumentalist, Soldier, Pipe Major a very talented man.
I’ve been lucky enough to have known Chris since 1985 when he guided me into the Australian Army eventually posting into the great 8/9 RAR.
A fantastic boss, mentor, bandsmen, supporter, mate – I can’t ever thank Chris enough for everything he’s done for me since I was a young lad out of Redcliffe. I know for sure I wouldn’t be where I am today both musically & personally without his guidance over the years.
Amazing Musical Skills, Always There, Always Ready to Listen & Advise, Good to his Diggers and Sometimes a Little Naughty.
I was hoping there might be a few more tunes in the squeezebox mate, but it looks like it’s time for massed bands – a well earned rest albeit a bit too soon.
I hope you’re enjoying a dram with Gordon & Alan and flying high over those Shetland Hills pumping out the tunes.
Safe journey to you and condolences to Myra & the girls.
Keep your pipes tuned mate, I will see you one day again at the big Ceilidh.
Chris, I was fortunate enough to become a part of your beautiful family in 1989. When Samantha and Amy were little bairns, they were scared when you played your beloved bag pipes, they have since learned to love that sound. I remember a (Grandad) story of you knocking on the door of their house in Coolbellup WA, unannounced, with nothing but a pair of socks in 1 pocket and a pair of jocks in the other pocket- how true I will never know!! Apparently you told Myra you were “going for a drive” you lived in Queensland at the time ☺️honestly I have so many happy, sad, crazy memories of you. Always a cheeky smile on your face and up to something, but ALWAYS ready to help anyone with anything at anytime. Sending all the love and hugs I can muster to Myra, Kandis, Danielle and all of your families. Cheers Chris, from Jenny
Chris
A truly talented, friendly, accommodating and loyal family man and friend.
You and Myra welcomed me so warmly when I became part of the 8/9 family, and you helped Jimmy and me in more ways than you ever realised.
When we left Brisbane, Kandis was only a toddler. Even though distance kept us apart and life moved us in different directions, I always followed your journey and listened to your music. You both remained close to my heart.
I know you will be deeply missed by Myra, Kandis, Danielle, and your extended family and friends. Your presence, your kindness, and your spirit will live on in all who loved you.
Rest in peace, Chris. Your fight is over now, and you are free from pain.
All our love to Myra, the girls, and the whole family.
What a lovely service for Chris – you’ve done him proud. Chris, I will never forget the kindness and hospitality shown us by your folks when we were new migrants to this country with no family or friends to lean on. You have followed in their footsteps. Rest in peace now. May and family.
Myra, Kandis and Danielle. We are so terribly sorry for your loss. I wish I had met Chris in person but we did interact over the years through social media and feel I knew him some. His love for his family, his music and a great sense of humor.
