Maria was a beautiful spirit who made everyone feel welcome. I have fond memories of the times we shared together, one of the best of which was the Leonard Cohen concert. Rock on Maria. I’ll always remember your laughter and joy.

Cara, I was so sorry to hear of your beloved mum, Maria’s, departure from this life. It is 50 years since I first met her, having just arrived in Australia to begin a teaching career. My abiding memory of Maria is her smile, simply because it was so genuine. She smiled with her eyes and needed to say no more. You were very young when I returned to Ireland but I can see from the pictures that your mum’s smile will brighten everyone’s day for many years to come.

I enjoyed working with Maria – her kindness, her sense of humour, her knowledge (especially when I was having trouble with my phone), her willingness to help, and her care for her colleagues. She is missed xx
